RAIN Smart Yard Design Workshop
March 25 @ 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm
Sustainable Speakers Series
This workshop will give you insight on a variety of rain smart features and provide guidance on when best to employ them. There will be an emphasis on rain gardens and infiltration galleries, but also information on rainwater harvesting, permeable pavement and other ways to manage water where it falls. We will discuss how to maximize the effectiveness of your rain smart yard and help you to develop a design.
Participants, please come to the workshop with a printout or sketch of your property with dimensions of your house and location of your downspouts indicated. Participants will leave the workshop with a basic design sketch and additional resources to implement a rain smart project in your own yard. The design sketch can help to facilitate discussion with a contractor or form the basis of the plan to do it yourself.
Participants should bring:
- Print out of the property from Google Earth or a sketch with dimensions of their home
- Photographs of any areas of interest on their property that may be relevant
Materials provided for workshop:
- Blank paper
- Trace paper
- Coloured pencils and/or markers
Take-home resources for participants:
- Greening Your Grounds workbook
- Plant list for rain gardens
- REEP supplier list
