REEP Kitchener Grants Update

As of Monday, March 19, 2012, REEP Kitchener Home Energy Grants are finished and fully awarded to customers. When results have been calculated, likely in late April, we will post an update on this page. Grants have been offered on a first-come, first-served basis, dependent upon the completion of a follow-up evaluation.

Please note: This will not affect the ecoENERGY grant eligibility of clients who are registered with Natural Resources Canada and therefore qualify for Federal incentives.

We would like to thank Kitchener homeowners for your enthusiastic participation in this program. Congratulations on making your homes more energy efficient, affordable and comfortable! Since 1999 we have collectively reduced green house gas emissions in the City of Kitchener by an estimated 12,000 tonnes of CO2!

About the Program

The REEP Kitchener Home Energy Grants program provided grants for insulation and air sealing that were available to owners of Kitchener homes built before 1970. These grants were offered in partnership with the City of Kitchener's Local Environmental Action Fund.

Funding for the incentive program in the amount of $500,000 was approved by city council as part of a Local Environmental Action Fund application made by REEP.

These funds made $440,037 available as incentives and grant verifications for Kitchener homeowners effective July 8, 2011.

The additional $59,963 supports free energy advice and homeowner learning through public workshops, open houses, and tours at the REEP House for Sustainable Living, as well as administrative costs of the grant program.

Grant Amounts

REEP's Kitchener Home Energy Grants program provided insulation and air sealing upgrade grants to a maximum of $5,000 per home. These grants were available on a first-come-first-served basis with the completion and verification of the home retrofit.

The grant amounts were based on ecoENERGY grant amounts and are being received in addition to ecoENERGY grants during the 2011-2012 extension of the ecoENERGY Retrofit - Homes program.

To have qualified for these incentives, you must have had a pre-retrofit ecoENERGY home evaluation through REEP before beginning your upgrades. (See Your Four Steps).

What Qualified for Kitchener Grants?

Kitchener grants were available for upgrades to insulation and air sealing only. This included:

• Ceiling (attic) insulation
• Exterior wall insulation
• Exposed floor insulation
• Basement insulation
• Crawl space insulation
• Air sealing (draft proofing)
