RAIN: Stormwater Education Partnership
How our partnership works
RAIN is a stormwater education and action program created by Green Communities Canada, delivered locally by REEP Green Solutions. RAIN encourages property owners to soak up rain on their properties in order to reduce flood risk, protect local waterways and qualify for stormwater credits in Kitchener and Waterloo.
In 2011, the Cities of Kitchener and Waterloo partnered with REEP Green Solutions and Green Communities Canada to deliver the RAIN program in order to support the roll-out of the their stormwater credit programs. The City of Cambridge joined the partnership in mid 2014 to encourage the adoption of stormwater management best practices in their city.
RAIN program funding assistance has been generously provided by The Ontario Trillium Foundation, the City of Kitchener’s Local Environmental Action Fund (LEAF), the Ontario Ministry of Environment’s Showcasing Water Innovation Fund and the Cities of Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge.
This is the first non-profit/municipal stormwater education partnership of its kind in Canada. The delivery model is highly effective and is now being adapted for use by other municipalities.
