News Release: Home Energy Coach launched
New home energy coach helps homeowners live comfortably and save money
Home improvements provide an excellent opportunity to improve energy efficiency
Kitchener – After last winter put Waterloo Region in a deep freeze, REEP Green Solutions is excited to launch a Home Energy Coach service. This pilot program, included with the purchase of an EnerGuide home evaluation, will help homeowners develop a game plan for making their home energy efficient and guide them through the process of executing it.
“People often ask us for advice about implementing our recommendations after they complete a home evaluation,” stated Mary Jane Patterson, Executive Director, REEP Green Solutions. “We’re excited to have something to offer now—a free service that helps homeowners develop a game plan and coaches them through it.”
All homeowners can benefit from a home energy evaluation and the advice of the home energy coach. Following the advice given by a REEP Certified Energy Advisor can show dramatic savings in your home’s energy costs; savings of up to 25% in an average home built before 1975. The home building boom that began after the Second World War and continued through the baby boom years means there are a large number of homes built before current energy efficiency standards were set.
“If you’d like a home that is more comfortable, healthier and saves you money then you need to enhance your home’s energy efficiency. An excellent opportunity to do so is when you’re undertaking any major home improvement project,” said Phil Drader, REEP’s new home energy coach. “I can help you identify which projects provide the greatest return on your investment, help you figure out which ones you can do yourself and guide you through the process of using contractors when most appropriate.”
Homeowners wondering if they could benefit from a home evaluation and working with the coach can arrange a free 30 minute consultation. Both consultations and evaluations are available by contacting REEP at 519-744-9799 and press 1 or reepgreen.ca. This pilot service is available until March 31, 2016.
The home energy coach is part of the Home Energy Catalyst Project. This initiative is a collaboration of REEP Green Solutions, Mindscape Innovations, Scaled Purpose, Kitchener Utilities, the University of Waterloo and Green Communities Canada.
Homeowners are invited to attend a presentation by the home energy coach about the top five home energy improvements. It is on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 1:30 p.m. at REEP House for Sustainable Living, 20 Mill Street, Kitchener. Following the presentation the coach is available for questions until 3:30. Also being offered are tours of REEP House to learn about its energy efficient and other environmentally friendly features.
