Take advantage of local food options
Buying local food is a great way to eat healthier, save money and support your local farmers!
In Kitchener / Waterloo we are fortunate to have some wonderful local markets available every week, such as the St. Jacobs Market and the Kitchener Market. Shopping at the farmers market is also a great way to buy fresh local food in season, and as a bonus, this drastically cuts carbon emissions used for food transportation. We can eat locally every meal, no matter what time of the year!
You could also investigate Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) or local food services such as Bailey’s Local Foods.
Food Link is a great website that provides information on where to find and how to prepare, store, and use local food. In addition, this site provides great recipes and an interactive map to help with your search food from Waterloo Region.
So support your local farmers, and save a buck!
