Montgomery Creek Community Planting & Open House

Join us to welcome back people and wildlife to Wilson Park following the restoration of Montgomery Creek and the construction of new park spaces!

In partnership with the City of Kitchener, we are hosting a family-friendly Open House and tour of this recently completed project. Come to learn from the design and construction team how this project aims to improve wildlife habitat and water quality in and around Montgomery Creek. You can also get your hands dirty as we work together as a community to plant native flowering plants that support pollinators who visit the park for food and shelter!

We strive to host inclusive, accessible events. To request an accommodation or for inquiries about accessibility, please contact [email protected].

Why Creek Restoration?

Restoring a creek allows water to flow safely into the Grand River. This prevents flooding during storms. A flood can damage critical infrastructure like water mains and sanitary sewers and creates community safety risks. 75% of urban Kitchener lacks stormwater management measures. Recent flooding at the Walter Bean Trail and Kiwanis Park highlights the need for action. Our community needs to adapt to intensifying weather caused by climate change. Restoring this part of Montgomery Creek is one way the City of Kitchener is adapting.

City of Kitchener Stormwater Projects

The City of Kitchener is working on several projects across the city to improve stormwater management. These projects improve water quality and reduce flood risk due to climate change. The projects are partially funded by the federal government’s Disaster Mitigation and Adaptation Fund (DMAF) with $50 million toward projects during 2018-2028.

Rain Smart Neighbourhoods

In partnership with the City of Kitchener, Reep Green Solutions is working with residents to create beautiful and healthy landscapes that make a big impact on reducing community flood risk and improving local water quality. Healthy yards lead to Rain Smart Neighbourhoods where rain water soaks into the ground instead of falling on hard surfaces and turning into runoff. These small changes add up to make our community more resilient to climate change.
