Rebates for electrically heated homes homes and non-Union Gas customers have ended as of October 1, 2018.
Get up to $5,000 back when you renovate!
If you own a single family dwelling (house, semi-detached or townhouse) or a duplexed house, you can receive up to $5,000 in home reno rebates for upgrades that improve energy efficiency!
Home energy evaluations included in rebates
Your rebate includes up to $550 towards completing the mandatory initial and follow-up evaluations. So if you make upgrades in at least 2 categories, you get up to $550 of your costs back.

As a charity, Reep Green Solutions is not required to charge HST.
Timeline for evaluations and work
- Complete a pre-renovation energy evaluation before starting any renovations
- Complete 2 or more eligible renovation categories to make your home more energy efficient
- Complete a post-renovation energy evaluation within 120 days of the initial evaluation

An incentive to do more upgrades
If you complete home energy upgrades in more than two categories below, you get $250 for each additional category.
Home energy upgrade categories
and potential rebates
For insulation rebates, you can do less than 100%. Your potential rebate matches the percentage that you do insulate. So for example if you insulate 50% of your basement walls by adding at least R23, you could get 50% of the $100 rebate or $500.
Category 1 – Basement Insulation
Basement insulation – When both a basement and crawl space are present, all applicable grants are pro-rated to a maximum of $1,000 based on the total combined wall area of basement and crawl space (see Union Gas’s website for full details)
1a. Basement Insulation Up to $1,000
For adding at least R23 to 100% of basement
1b. Basement Insulation Up to $500
For adding at least R12 to 100% of basement
1c. Basement Insulation Up to $800
For adding at least R23 to 100% of crawl space wall
1d. Basement Insulation Up to $400
For adding at least R10 to 100% of crawl space wall
1e. Basement Insulation Up to $450
For adding at least R24 to 100% of floor above crawl space
Category 2 – Exterior Wall Insulation
Basement and Ext. Walls – For a semi-detached, exterior wall and basement wall insulation rebates are 75 per cent of the amounts shown.
2a. Exterior Wall Insulation Up to $1,500
Add at least R9 for 100% of building to achieve a minimum of R12
2b. Exterior Wall Insulation Up to $1,000
Add at least R3.8 for 100% of building to achieve a minimum of R12
Category 3 – Attic Insulation
Attic insulation – Insulate a minimum of 20 per cent of the total ceiling area. When the roof consists of more than one type and/or sections (i.e., any combination of attic, cathedral ceiling and flat roof), rebates are pro-rated based on the total ceiling area percentages upgraded. The rebate for any combination of attic, cathedral ceiling and flat roof cannot exceed $500
3a. Attic Insulation Up to $500
For increasing attic insulation from R12 or less to at least R50
3b. Attic Insulation Up to $250
For increasing attic insulation from R13 to R25 to at least R50
3c. Attic Insulation Up to $500
For increasing cathedral/flat roof insulation by at least R14
Category 4 – Air Sealing
Air Sealing $150 …base target identified in the pre-assessment
Air Sealing $100 …base target identified in the pre-assessment
4a. Air Sealing $150 if you achieve 10% or more above base target
4b. Air Sealing $100 if you achieve base target
Category 5 – Furnace or Boiler
Furnace / Boiler* $750
Furnace – Replace current furnace (must be < 95% efficient) with a 95% efficient or higher natural gas furnace
Boiler – Replace current gas boiler (must be < 90% efficient) with a 90% efficient or higher natural gas boiler
**Maximum one eligible heating system rebate per meter. Your home’s primary heating source must be a natural gas furnace or boiler. Combi units qualify as boilers and are eligible for boiler rebates (see Union Gas’s website for full details about combi units)
Category 6 – Water Heater
Water Heater $200
Water Heater Rebate:
Replace current gas water heater with 0.80 EF or higher tanked natural gas water heater.
Or Replace current gas water heater with 0.90 EF or higher tankless natural gas water heater.
**Maximum one water heater rebate per home. Switching to/from an electric water heater does not qualify for the rebate. Combo units qualify as water heaters and are eligible for water heater rebates (see Union Gas’s website for full details about combo units)
Category 7 – Windows, doors and skylights
$40 rebate per rough opening. Bay window considered one rough opening.
Window/Door/Skylight $40 each
For each window, door or skylight replaced with a Zone 2 or 3 ENERGYSTAR-qualified model

Heating and cooling incentive
You can also apply for the Heating and Cooling Incentive for a new gas furnace replacement and the installation of an air conditioner.
- Energy Star qualified central air conditioning system with a minimum SEER 18 and EER 13 – $600
- Gas Furnace with Electrically Commutated Motor (ECM) – $250
